CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The Illinois baseball program has added Casey Fletcher as a volunteer coach for the 2017 season. Fletcher will fill the role previously held by Kyle Hudson, who left the Illini to become bench coach for the Cleveland Indians' Single-A affiliate Lynchburg Hillcats.
Fletcher was an All-Big Ten performer in each of his two years playing for the Illini (2014-15). He was a big part of Illinois' 50-win season in 2015, helping the Fighting Illini reach the program's first NCAA Super Regional while hitting .326 with 48 runs, three homers and 33 RBIs. Fletcher had a hit in all five games of the NCAA Tournament, four during the NCAA Regional and two during the NCAA Super Regional.
Fletcher ended his Illini career with a .318 career batting average, nine homers and 60 RBIs in 108 games. He graduated in 2015 with a degree in communication.
Following his Illinois career, Fletcher joined the Joliet Slammers of the Frontier League. He played with the Slammers each of the past two summers and transitioned from an outfielder to catcher.
Fletcher's father, Darrin, played at Illinois before a 14-year career in Major League Baseball.
