Ray Guy Award
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Illinois freshman punter Blake Hayes was added to the Ray Guy Award watch list, it was announced Tuesday. The Ray Guy Award is presented annually to the nation's best college football punter.
Hayes is averaging 40.1 yards per punt through the first six games of his career. He has eight punts downed inside the 20-yard line and three have gone for 50+ yards. Hayes ranks fifth in the nation in punting average among true freshmen (40.1).
The Melbourne, Australia, native played Australian rules football for three years in high school before coming to the United States. Illinois' season opener was the first American football game he ever attended.
