CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois volleyball freshman Jacqueline Quade has been named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week after leading the Illini to back-to-back wins to open the conference slate, the league announced on Monday (Sept. 26) afternoon.
The honors are the first for the rookie outside hitter and the first for the Illini in 2016. The Illini opened Big Ten play with a five-set win at No. 10 Purdue last Wednesday, before sweeping Rutgers in the team's league home opener on Saturday night.
Quade totaled the second-most kills on the week for the Illini with 25 between the two matches, averaging 3.12 kills per set and posting a .246 hitting percentage, as well as four digs, three blocks and one assist.
Against the Boilermakers, Quade notched 13 kills on 33 swings and six errors for a .212 hitting percentage to go along with two blocks, two digs and an assist. She then added 12 kills on 24 attacks and five errors for a .292 hitting percentage, two blocks and a dig in the win over the Scarlet Knights.
In her first season with the Illini, Quade has reached double figures kills in all but three matches and is averaging a team-high 3.10 kills per set.
Quade and the Fighting Illini return to action on Wednesday (Sept. 28) as they host the annual IlliNOISE Night against defending NCAA Champion and No.1-ranked Nebraska at 7:30 p.m. CT in Huff Hall.
