CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Fighting Illini were back on the grass practice fields east of Memorial Stadium on Wednesday afternoon for Training Camp practice No. 12.
While the Orange and Blue have been practicing for about two hours per day during training camp, they've been spending much more time behind the scenes watching film and walking through senarios. That will change on Monday, however, when classes start at the University of Illinois.
"Right now it's about daily improvment," head coach Lovie Smith said. "Of course, next week things change with school starting up. We'll continue to practice, but we won't have that long period of time to meet each day. I'm excited about getting on that game-week routine. It says that the season is upon us."
The Illini return to practice Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There are three more Training Camp practices open to the public – Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Once school starts, practices will be closed to the public.
Back on the grass fields this PM.
