Full All-Region Teams
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Cody Sedlock was named to the ABCA/Rawlings Mideast All-Region first team, the American Baseball Coaches Association announced. Sedlock was a Baseball America All-American and first-round draft pick of the Baltimore Orioles following the conclusion of his junior season.
Sedlock had one of the best seasons in Illinois history in 2016, breaking team records for strikeouts, innings pitched against Big Ten opponents and strikeouts against Big Ten opponents. He went 5-3 with a 2.49 ERA, while striking out 116 batters in 101 1/3 innings. Sedlock threw two complete games and was the only pitcher in the country to throw into the 10th inning on two occasions this season.
Sedlock, a product of Sherrard, Illinois, came to Illinois as a two-way player before becoming a reliever for his first two years on campus. After nine Illini were drafted in 2015, he moved to a starting role and will likely continue as a starting pitcher when he transitions to pro baseball.
Sedlock is expected to sign with Baltimore this week. He was the first Fighting Illini drafted this year and one of five moving on to the minor leagues this summer.
