CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – More than 23,000 fans attended Illinois baseball games at Illinois Field in 2016. An average of 1,310 Illini fans were at 18 home games, the second-highest mark in program history.
Illinois' home game average ranked third in the Big Ten during the regular season and currently ranks 50th in the country.
Last season was the only year Illinois had more fans come out to Illinois Field, averaging 1,721 fans during 28 home dates that included NCAA Regional and NCAA Super Regional games. During the past two seasons, the Fighting Illini have had 71,804 fans through the Illinois Field gates for an average of 1,561 fans per game.
Four of the top 29 single-game attendances in program history came in 2016, including 2,339 fans on April 22 to watch Illinois win a 15-inning 1-0 thriller over Ohio State. The Ohio State series was the fourth-best series attendance in team history (6,301) and the Illini's three-day mark of 4,529 for the Saint Louis series was the most ever against a nonconference opponent. Illinois' 2,045 fans at the April 16 game against Saint Louis was a single-game record against a nonconference opponent.
