Illinois Commencement | #ILLINOIS2016
One hundred and nineteen Fighting Illini student-athletes will earn degrees from the University of Illinois in 2015-16, including 75 this spring, with campus commencement ceremonies taking place May 13-15. Many Illini already earned degrees in December and many more will complete their course work in August.
Commencement weekend is the culmination of another excellent year in the classroom for Illinois student-athletes. The combined GPA for all U of I student-athletes last spring was a 3.24, and the GPA from last fall was a 3.23. In the fall 2015 semester, 26 student-athletes earned perfect 4.0 GPAs. In fall 2015, 65 percent of our student-athletes earned GPAs over a 3.00.
Once again this year, Illini student-athletes were actively involved in the Champaign-Urbana community and beyond through their participation in Hometown Heroes community service events, all part of the Douglas C. Roberts Illini CHAMPS Life Skills Program.
Over 450 Fighting Illini student-athletes participated in 130 events this year volunteering thousands of hours visiting children in local schools and hospitals, senior citizens in nursing homes, and participating in events with organizations in our community like the Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club, the Crisis Nursery, Eastern Illinois Foodbank and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
