CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois and Minnesota will play a doubleheader Friday with games scheduled for 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. CT due to forecasted rain the rest of the weekend. The third game of the series is to be determined depending on the weather on Saturday and Sunday.
Friday's 8 p.m. game will still be televised by Big Ten Network. The 4 p.m. game will be available to watch for free on Fighting Illini.com. Dave Loane will have the radio call for all three games on the Fighting Illini Sports Network and WDWS AM-1400.
Illinois (20-17, 6-6 Big Ten) and Minnesota are two of the hottest teams in the Big Ten. The Fighting Illini have won eight of their last 10, while Minnesota sits atop the conference standings at 9-2.
The Fighting Illini got a big series win over Ohio State last weekend to move to eighth place of the Big Ten. National Pitcher of the Week Cody Sedlock fired 10.2 innings of shutout baseball in a 15-inning win Friday and Jack Yalowitz' three-RBI double in the seventh inning Sunday secured the series win.
Minnesota (25-12, 9-2 Big Ten) has won each of their Big Ten series, taking two of three from Iowa and Maryland and sweeping Michigan (2 games) and Northwestern (3 games). The Gophers are led by two-way player Matt Fiedler, who is hitting .395 with three homers and 24 RBIs, while owning a 6-2 record on the mound with a 3.60 ERA.
