CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Fighting Illini baseball team travels to Conway, South Carolina, this weekend for four games against two nonconference opponents at the Coastal Carolina Invitational. The Illini are set to face UNC Greensboro on Friday (11 a.m. CT) and Saturday (11 a.m. CT) and Coastal Carolina on Saturday (3 p.m. CT) and Sunday (10 a.m. CT) at Springs Brooks Stadium.
Illinois (6-3) swept the Stetson Invitational last weekend against Central Michigan, Stetson and Villanova. Adam Walton led the team in hitting (6-13, .462) during the series. The Illini pitching staff has continued to be sharp in the last three games, owning a 2.33 ERA and striking out 26 batters in 27 innings.
UNC Greensboro (8-4) is coming off a series against Army where they went 2-1. L.J. Kalawaia leads the team with a .419 batting average and Dillon Stewart has three home runs.
Coastal Carolina (7-6) was ranked No. 22 last weekend but fell out of the rankings following losses to No. 13 Mississippi and Cincinnati over the weekend. The Chanticleers also lost to Wake Forest, 11-0, on Tuesday. CCU has played a tough schedule so far, facing No. 8 NC State, No. 18 Virginia and Ole Miss. Billy Cooke (.378) leads the team in hitting and Zach Remillard has already hit five home runs.
