CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Junior Matthew James and freshman Luke Shilling hit back-to-back homers for the Blue team in the first inning to spark a 7-6 win in the opener of the Orange & Blue World Series. Blue takes a 1-0 series lead to Wednesday's Game 2.
Shilling and James finished with two hits apiece. Senior Michael Hurwitz led the Orange with two doubles.
The Orange squad held a 4-3 lead after one inning, before the Blue team came back with two in the second and two more in the fifth. James finished off the Orange, which had scored single runs in the sixth and seventh, to earn the save in the seven-inning game.
Wednesday's Game 2 and Thursday's Game 3 are each scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
