Champaign, Ill. - Illinois Soccer and head coach Janet Rayfield announce the addition of Allie Osmundson to the soccer staff. Osmundson joins the staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2015 season. Osmundson brings with her four years of coaching experience in both men's and girl's soccer.
"To bring someone into our program, we want to make sure it's a good fit," head coach Janet Rayfield said of Osmundson. "I think instantly we felt like Allie was a great fit. Â She was a leader on her team as a collegiate athlete. Â She was a center back and I think people in those positions see the game, understand the game and read the game very well. That quality translates very well into being a very knowledgeable coach. Â I think we have someone who is knowledgeable, who has great playing experience and who really has a desire to be a great coach at the Division I level. I think it's going to be a win-win for both of us. She's got a lot to contribute to our program and we're really excited to have her on board."
A native of Iowa, Osmundson comes to Illinois from Mashalltown High School where she previously served as the Head Girls' Soccer Coach. Under her tenure, she led Marshalltown to back-to-back winning seasons, tripling the program's wins from 2012 to 2013. She has coached 25 All-Conference players, four All-District players, one All-Division player and one All-State team player.Â
In addition to her responsibilities at Marshalltown, Osmundson also served as the Assistant Men's Soccer Coach at Marshalltown Community College. Her main responsibilities with men's program included preparing drills and scouting reports as well as managing equipment and travel arrangements. She helped guide the team to the 2012 NJCAA Tournament and has coached three NJCAA All-Americans.Â
Osmunsdon also has coaching experience with the Marshalltown Strikers, an Iowa club soccer program, and the Lake Country Soccer Club in Springfield, Mo.
A Division I soccer player, Osmundson was a member of the Missouri State Women's Soccer team from 2005-08. She made the Missouri Valley All-Conference team three times in her career, and was named team captain in 2008. She was twice named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week and was recognized on the Missouri Valley Conference All-Tournament Team in 2007. Â
The Illini will open exhibition play on today in Maple City, Michigan against Virginia before heading to Notre Dame on Sunday, Aug. 16 for another exhibition match. The regular season will begin on Aug. 21 as the Illini host Oakland at 7 p.m. in Illinois Soccer Stadium.Â
