Chatrice White
has the opportunity to represent the United States with USA Basketball this summer at the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship. White is one of 14 student-athletes selected for the team, and will travel to Alicante, Spain, to compete in a round-robin tournament July 11-13 against U19 national teams from Australia, Canada and Spain prior to arriving in Russia for the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship.
The team is en route to Spain, and Chatrice sent back a message to #Illini fans in the States:
Hey Illini fans! Â
We are officially done with U.S training camp! As much fun it was to be at the Olympic Training Center (and seeing Michael Phelps almost daily), I am so ready to travel to Spain!
Since I last wrote to you, we had several early morning practices, and two scrimmages against the U.S Pan American team.  That team features players like Breanna Stewart (UConn), Tiffany Mitchell (South Carolina), and Taya Reimer (Notre Dame). We played really well both nights, including a victory of 74-68 and a tough loss 73-70.
The results have given us a lot of excitement and confidence as we prepared to travel overseas!
I know my teammates are just as excited as I am to get to Spain, however we aren't that excited to be sitting in the airport waiting for our flight. Sure enough, we are flying United on the one day that the entire airline's computer system is down. Although this isn't the most ideal situation we could have asked for as we start our journey across the pond, we are going to make the most of it!
We are supposed to land in Madrid this morning, and what better way to break us in to the Spanish culture is by having a couple of two-a-day practices! After a couple days of practice, we will play a couple of scrimmages against countries like Spain, Egypt, and even Canada. Hopefully we will have some time to explore the city and maybe even the beach before we are off to Russia!
Yours truly,
Chatrice White
