M. Golf. Barlow, Guthrie headed for U.S. Public Links Championship

Illinois senior Zach Barlow and sophomore Luke Guthrie are headed to Norman, Okla., this week to participate in the 84th U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. The 2009 event will be held July 13-18 at the Jimmie Austin/Oklahoma University Golf Club.

The Fighting Illini tennis teams welcomed a new addition to its facilities this season. The Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex, completed this past spring, was made possible by the generous donation of UI alumnus Shahid Khan and his wife, Ann. The addition of the new complex now puts Illinois' facilities among the most elite in the nation, providing players with a top-notch home court advantage.

All-American Angela Bizzarri will attempt to qualify to represent the United States at the World Championships in running next week at the Meeting International d'athlétisme de la Province de Liège at the Naimette-Xhovément stadium in Belgium. Bizzarri will race in the 5,000m at 1:40 p.m. CT on Wednesday, July 15.

W. Track. Buford-Bailey Named to Team USA World Championships Staff

Illinois women's track and field head coach Tonja Buford-Bailey will serve as an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2009 IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Berlin, Germany, USA Track & Field announced Monday. Buford-Bailey will assist Team USA head coach Chandra Cheeseborough as the sprints/hurdles coach during the championships from August 15-23.

University of Illinois incoming freshman Destiny Williams is one of 12 players named to the 2009 USA U19 World Championship Team, USA Basketball announced on Tuesday. As the two-time defending U19 World Championship gold medalists, the USA will attempt to make it three straight golds at the '09 U19 Worlds, scheduled for July 23-Aug. 2 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Cermignano (pronounced sir-min-YA-no) comes to Illinois with 11 years of Division I coaching experience, including the last three as an assistant at Vanderbilt University.
