Andrew Young was named the University of Illinois Director of Video in July 2004. He began his career in athletic video production as an undergraduate at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1995, working four years for HuskerVision in the athletic department. While in college, Young interned for CBS News in New York City and the New York Mets. Upon graduation, Young was hired full-time as an editor and camera operator for the New York Mets video department. He then went on to work for ABC News and ABC Sports in New York City and was a Production Assistant at ESPN in Bristol, Conn., before returning to HuskerVision as a Graduate Assistant, overseeing the production of the men's basketball television show.
In 2004, Young had the opportunity to start the video department at Illinois, and he has remained Director of Video ever since. Young manages Illini Productions, supervising a wide range of staff, including full-time employees, freelance videographers and dozens of student employees. He is in charge of all live big screen productions for football and men's and women's basketball, live events for BTN.com and the weekly television show "Fighting Illini Insider." In all, there are approximately 150 live productions per year. He also works to ensure coverage of all 19 sports, supervising the production of end-of-the-season highlight tapes, special video projects, marketing commercials, web content and Big Ten Network productions. He has served as the college representative for IDEA, an industry organization for those involved in professional and collegiate video big screen production.
A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Andrew holds bachelor's and master's degrees in broadcast journalism from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He and his wife Kelley reside in Urbana with their two children, Audrey and Simon.
