Rick Raven was named the University of Illinois Head Athletic Equipment Manager in July of 2010. He began his career in college athletics as a football student manager at Illinois State University from 1990-1994. Raven was the first student manager to earn a full scholarship for his work with the football team and in the equipment room.
In 1995, Raven accepted the position of Assistant Women's Equipment Manager at Illinois and then was promoted to Assistant Equipment Manager in 1999. He has worked in some capacity with all men and women's sports at Illinois. Raven oversees a staff, which is responsible for all equipment and apparel needs for 19 varsity sports. He has been a Certified Athletic Equipment Manager since 1995, has been published in the AEMA Journal and is a three-time workshop presenter at the AEMA national convention.
A lifelong resident of Illinois, Raven was born in Chicago and raised in Bolingbrook. He and his wife, Jill, have two children (Brooke and Ricky) and reside in Tolono.
