Derryl Myles was named Director of Streaming and Video Services in September 2004. He began his career in 1998 at the University of Nebraska working as a student for the university athletic department video department known as HuskerVision. During his undergraduate tenure, he worked on several video board features and television features for the University of Nebraska. Also as an undergraduate, he worked video production for the Lincoln Saltdogs (a minor league baseball team in Lincoln) and The Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb.
Prior to arriving at Illinois in 2004 Myles was the Director of Entertainment for the Fresno Grizzlies, the AAA affiliate for the San Francisco Giants.
First serving as the primary director for sporting events for the U of I, Myles has added Director of Web Video to his duties. He is the primary video contact for the Big Ten Network and oversees the BTN venture called "Student U". This is a program that is designed to give undergraduates experience in television production. Students are shooting, directing and providing commentary for BTN events that are stream live on the internet. Most of these productions are then rebroadcast on the BTN linear network.
A native of Lincoln, Neb., Myles earned his bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from Nebraska in 2002. He and his wife, Allison, have two children (twin boys Devin and Brandon) and reside in Urbana.
