Numerous DIA Staff Members Participate, Volunteer on Race Day
Katie McKinney is in her second year as the Director of the Varsity Room for the University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics. She returns to Illinois 10 years after graduating from the U of I. As a student, McKinney worked in the Varsity Room gaining valuable experience and learning the importance of providing optimally nutritious meals and support to ILLINI athletes.
A Registered, Licensed Dietitian and Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD), she provides the same care in planning meals that are designed to help the athletes at Illinois meet their training and performance goals. McKinney is also passionate about educating athletes at the Varsity Room, and helps teach athletes from all teams how to prepare and cook high-nutrient meals and snacks in addition to recommending the best foods to meet individual training needs.
McKinney brings a wide range of nutrition experience and knowledge to her position with Illinois. Prior to her return to campus, she served as a Clinical Dietitian for Carle Foundation Hospital for two years and as a Corporate Dietitian for Petersen Health Care for five years. A native of Mahomet, Ill., Katie earned her bachelor's degree in Dietetics from the University of Illinois in 2001 and her Master's Degree in Dietetics from Eastern Illinois University in 2003.
