Susan Kundrat is the sports nutritionist for the University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics. A Registered Dietitian and Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics, Susan has been a leader in the sports nutrition field for over 20 years. She started her career helping athletes achieve their performance goals as a graduate assistant at Iowa State University, where she volunteered with Cyclone teams from 1991-1993. In 1993, she was named sports nutritionist at the University of Illinois SportWell Center, where she counseled ILLINI athletes as part of her campus position. In 1998, she started Nutrition on the Move, a sports nutrition and wellness consulting business, and worked with athletes from the U. of Illinois, as well as several other universities, including Northwestern University, Bradley University, University of Chicago, University of Evansville, Eastern Illinois University, and Western Illinois University.
In 1997, Susan was named Illinois "Young Registered Dietitian of the Year" and in 2003, she received the SCAN (Sports, Cardiovascular, and Wellness Nutritionists) Excellence in Practice Award for Sports Nutrition. She is the author of "101 Sports Nutrition Tips" and the editor of "The Nutrition Edge." She is a member of the American Dietetic Association, the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians, SCAN, and the American College of Sports Medicine.
A native of Jefferson, Iowa, Susan received her AA degree from Waldorf College, while being named All-Region in three sports (basketball, softball, and volleyball) and was an Honor Athlete at Minnesota State and led the women's basketball team at point guard while earning her B.S. in Dietetics. She completed a dietetic internship at Boston's Beth Israel Hospital, and later completed an M.S. in Nutrition from Iowa State University.
