Vince Ille was promoted to Associate Athletic Director at the University of Illinois in June 2003. He currently oversees 11 of the department's 19 varsity sport programs. Those sport programs include men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, soccer, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's track and field, volleyball and wrestling. Ille also oversees the operation of the department's $1.5 million summer camp and clinic program which supplements coaching salaries and annually offers over 7,000 youth the opportunity to experience the campus and local community.
In his current role, Ille also oversees the operation of the Armory Track and Floor and serves as advisor to the Director of Athletics and the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance for all significant NCAA and Big Ten rules compliance issues. He is the university's designated Athletics Certification Liaison, managed the institution's participation in the NCAA Division I Athletics Certification process, and wrote the institution's 2007-08 NCAA Self-Study Report. Ille also annually teaches Introduction to Sport Law in the College of Applied Health Sciences.
Ille arrived at the University of Illinois in January 1998 when he was named the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. Ille developed and administered a comprehensive rules compliance program that included the development of policies and procedures, provision of rules education and interpretations, and monitoring of all activities involving student-athletes, coaches, staff and supporters. He also created the department's athletic auditing systems and its agent and advisor program for student-athletes. During his tenure at Illinois, Ille has served as an NCAA peer-review team member at the University of Maryland, University of Hawaii and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Prior to his arrival at Illinois, Ille was Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Services at the University of Cincinnati from 1991-1997. In addition to compliance responsibilities there, he also coordinated, monitored and reported the determination of student-athlete eligibility. Ille managed 11 varsity sport programs, served as the department's first CHAMPS/Life Skills Coordinator and managed the provision of student services for all student-athletes. These services included his creation of the UC TEAM mentorship program, the school's first student-athlete advisory committee, academic awards programs, a student-athlete speaker's bureau and various community outreach projects. Ille also supervised the award of athletics scholarships and on-campus housing for all student-athletes.
Ille was a Compliance Assistant at the University of Oklahoma from 1989-1991 where he also helped administer the Athletic Department's courtesy car program and its substance abuse education and testing program.
An Oklahoma native, Ille earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1985 and a Master of Science in Sport Management from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts in 1990. He and his wife Karen have two children (Jessica and Jennifer) and reside in Champaign.
