Guin begins his fourth year with Fighting Illini Academic Services after spending two years as an assistant basketball coach at Florida Atlantic. He currently works as an advisor for football, but has also worked with softball, wrestling, men's tennis teams and served as tutor coordinator. Guin also is responsible for maintaining the Illinois academic services website and is the contact person for the academic software management system used by the athletics academics department.
Guin monitors the academic progress of Fighting Illini football players and assists student-athletes in course scheduling, time management, study skills, degree attainment and career development.
Guin started his professional career at Illinois as the men's basketball administrative assistant, a position he held from 1997-2003, where he was a part of four Big Ten Championships and five NCAA tournament appearances. He then spent three seasons at Western Illinois as an assistant basketball coach. He then moved to FAU, where he was head coach Rex Walters' first staff member hired.
Guin earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Florida in 1995 before completing a master's degree in elementary education at Florida in 1996. One year later, he earned a master's in sports management, also from Florida. He currently is working on his doctorate degree here at Illinois in educational and organizational leadership.
He married the former Betsy Bergeson in July 2001, and the couple has three children, Ellee, Troy and Luke. The family resides in Champaign.
