J. Steven Greene
Director of Development
Serving in his 14th year with the Office of Athletic Development, Steve Greene ('76) manages the development activities for Chicago and the northern Illinois area from the Illini Center on Wacker Drive. Greene joined the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics in 1991, working three years on campus before moving to Chicago in August of 1994.
In his role as Director of Development, he is primarily responsible for fundraising and public relations activities in the northern part of the state and in Decatur, as well as cultivating major gifts on the east coast in New York, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, and in the state of Florida. In addition, he serves as coordinator for the major gifts program and the capital campaign, with priorities for enhancing facilities, increasing endowment and I FUND revenues for scholarships, and developing investment by donors through wills and other methods of planned giving.
Prior to joining the DIA, Greene spent 10 years with the United Way in Decatur, IL. and Findlay, OH, where he served as Chief Professional Officer for the United Way of Hancock County from 1987-1991. A standout fullback on the Illinois football team from 1972-75, Greene was a four year letter winner under head coach Bob Blackman. He finished his career at Illinois with 25 career starts and ranks 24th on the list of all-time leading rushers with 1,228 yards.
