Chris Byron has been the Coordinator for Certification of Eligibility and Financial Aid since 2000. His responsibilities include administering, documenting and monitoring eligibility and financial aid for all varsity student-athletes within NCAA and Big Ten Conference rules.
Prior to his arrival at Illinois, Byron was the Coordinator of Programs for Student-Athletes at Fairfield University. He also served as the Eligibility Coordinator and Academic Athletic Advisor at the University of Cincinnati. Byron started his career at the University of Kentucky as an Academic Counseling Intern in the athletic department and has worked with several teams at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
Byron received his B.S. in Physical Education -Teaching Certificate in 1991 from Springfield College (Massachusetts), where he ran cross country and track. He also earned a Master's degree in Athletic Counseling in 1993 from Springfield College.
Chris and his wife, Ellen, have a son, and reside in Urbana.
