CHAMPAIGN, ILL - The 2001 Big Ten Championship Banner will be raised at the Assembly Hall prior to the University of Illinois exhibition game against the Illinois All-Stars Wednesday, Nov. 7. Illinois won a share of the 2001 Big Ten title with a 13-3 league mark last season on the way to a 27-8 overall record. The 27 wins were the second-most in school history.
Illinois is ranked No. 2 in the nation in the preseason USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll and No. 3 in the preseason Associated Press Poll announced today. That is the highest preseason ranking since starting the 1984-85 season No. 2 in the preseason.
Illini fans will have the opportunity to catch former Illinois star Kevin Turner in action for the Illinois All-Stars Wednesday night. Turner is one of 11 former collegiate stars on the team. The All-Stars dropped their season opener Nov. 1 at Iowa by the score of 116-68, and lost Sunday at DePaul by the score of 88-77. The All-Stars play at Missouri Nov. 5 before coming to Champaign on Nov. 6.
