Several student-athletes from various teams visited local elementary schools this past week as a part of Hometown Heroes series. Men's Baseball, Women's Cross Country, Women's Gymnastics, Women's Soccer, Swimming & Divng, and Volleyball programs were all represented in the Walk for Westview event at Westview Elementary School in Champaign. The theme this year was Celebrate the Arts. The children and student-athletes took part in various music, dance, art, and theatre activities at the event .
Also, Women's Basketball visited the after school program at Yankee Ridge Elementary. The student-athletes visited and interacted with the children in various activities. At the end of their visit, the children participated in a Q & A session with the student-athletes.
Hometown Heroes is a community outreach program that provides our student-athletes with opportunities to interact with youth from Champaign County while spreading an anti-drug, anti-gang and pro-Illini message. This program enables our student-athletes to develop their speaking skills while impacting the lives of others as they serve as role models for the youth of our community.
