The University of Illinois athletic department announced the hiring of Bill Hamrick as the newest member of the I FUND staff Wednesday afternoon. Hamrick, 1985 graduate of Illinois, will serve as the Director of Major Gifts in the Chicago office.
Hamrick comes to Illinois after two successful years working with the development and marketing of the Italian-American Hall of Fame project. Since 2002, he has conducted a campaign to raise $22 million, $15 million of which has been completed, for the facility to be named for Illinois basketball standout Jerry Colangelo. Hamrick worked alongside Colangelo to develop and secure corporate and private donations for the upcoming Jerry Colangelo Center (Hall of Fame).
"We're excited to have Bill, a former baseball player, join our team as we build momentum towards a capital campaign, which includes renovations to Memorial Stadium and our basketball facility," Associate Athletic Director Shawn Wax said. "Bill will work primarily with our major gifts in the Chicago area. His sales and fundraising experience coupled with his strong Fighting Illini ties make him a natural fit for this athletic department."
Prior to his time with the IAHOF, Hamrick worked with Corporate 100 Companies, Abbott Laboratories and Rubbermaid, primarily in development and marketing. With Abbott, he engineered world-wide strategic business initiatives and worked with the Sharpie 500 Nascar Race at Bristol Motor Speedway (Tenn.), while with Rubbermaid.
"This is a lifelong dream to be a part of the Illinois athletic department," Hamrick said. "I feel like I am coming home. I am excited about my future at Illinois, not only to work with the student-athletes, but the capital campaign as well."
The Champaign-native is married to the former Stephanie Prager (Illinois '86) and the couple resides in Chicago with their three children, Ryan, Jessica and Alyssa.
