CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA) at the University of Illinois announced the addition of four employees to the department. Jennifer Larson is the Interim Assistant Athletic Director for Sales and Marketing, Matt Wszolek is Associate Director of Development and Corporate Partnerships, Carrie Snyder is Director of Marketing and Ellen Schmidt will be an Assistant Director of Development.
Larson has been the Assistant Director of Marketing for the University of Illinois Assembly Hall since 2004 and has been responsible for marketing the Entertainment events including concerts, family shows, Broadway theatre, comedy and trade shows. She also manages ticketing, group sales and graphic design. She will continue in this role and also oversee the Sales and Marketing Department for Illinois athletics. On the athletics side, Larson will direct the marketing and promotional initiatives for all Illinois intercollegiate sports. Larson graduated with a bachelor's degree in marketing from Millikin University and an MBA from the University of Illinois.
Wszolek, who graduated from Illinois in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in marketing, returns to the UI following a 10-year career with the Chicago Cubs and spending last year as an independent marketing consultant, where he helped brands increase their return on investment and grow their national exposure. As the Director of Sales and Promotions with the Cubs, he managed the advertising campaigns, sponsorship sales, premium experiences, and servicing arm of the marketing department along with all promotional activities of the organization. At Illinois, he will help with the formulation of corporate partnerships, assist with cultivation and stewardship initiatives of I FUND members, and aid the marketing efforts in Chicago.
Snyder joins Illinois after spending the past two years as the Assistant Director of Fan Experience and Promotions for Ohio State. In her time with the Buckeyes, she was responsible for all marketing, advertising and game day entertainment for the women's basketball and baseball programs. In addition, Snyder oversaw seven Olympic sports and the department intern program. Prior to working for the Buckeyes, she served as the Director of Marketing and Promotions for Newberry College from 2007-09 as well as an assistant coach for the women's basketball team. Snyder graduated from Maryville University of Saint Louis in 2007 with an MBA and a concentration in marketing.
Schmidt will join the Athletic Development staff in September 2011. A longtime Champaign resident and graduate of Eastern Illinois University, Ellen brings with her over a decade of fundraising and marketing experience in the non-profit sector. Most recently, she served the United Way of Champaign County as Vice President-Community Investment. Ellen's responsibilities involve assisting with planning and implementation of the annual fund program including the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship initiatives of members of the I FUND. In addition, she assists with all initiatives regarding DIA premium seating.
There have been several other changes in staff assignments for the upcoming year. Associate Athletics Director Dana Brenner's responsibilities have been expanded to include DIA facilities and facilities maintenance staff in addition to his current duties with men's basketball administration, managing the DIA master plan, Assembly Hall and the Assembly Hall renovation, and building restoration and repair.
Associate Athletics Director Tom Michael has relocated to the Bielfeldt Athletics Administration Building. His responsibilities have been expanded to include football administration in addition to his current oversight of event management, academic services, strength and conditioning, sports medicine and equipment.
Kristin Kane has been named Director of Academic Services and will assume oversight of the daily operations of the Irwin Academics Services Center.
Holly Stalcup has been named the Director of Event Management, which will also include facility scheduling.
Assistant Athletics Director Kathy Hug's responsibilities have been expanded to include women's basketball administration in addition to her current duties with baseball, men's and women's gymnastics, softball, swimming, the Varsity Room, cheerleading and the Marching Illini.
