CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - More than $30 million has been committed by University of Illinois I FUND donors in support of the Illinois Renaissance of State Farm Center since January, giving the project an outstanding start. The UI and State Farm announced in April a 30-year, $60-million agreement that changed the name of the building, which was previously known as the Assembly Hall, to State Farm Center, as the iconic structure undergoes a major renovation project scheduled for completion in the fall of 2016. The investment by State Farm is the largest by a corporation for a collegiate venue.
"The response and support by some of our most loyal fans has been outstanding," UI Director of Athletics Mike Thomas said. "We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but we have gotten off to a great start. When completed, the State Farm Center will make Fighting Illini fans everywhere proud because it will be the finest facility in the Big Ten. We've been able to gain this support without taking away from our annual fund, which is vital to the success of our programs."
"Thank you to the Fighting Illini Nation and our loyal I FUND donors," Senior Associate Athletics Director Rick Darnell said. "This has truly been a remarkable year so far. We are off to a monumental start due to the success of our student-athletes and coaches. This is also an opportunity to praise my I FUND teammates, other DIA staff and university staff who have helped make this year a success with outstanding teamwork. It is exciting to see the enthusiasm, belief and investment by our fan base in our student-athletes and coaches. Philanthropic giving and transformational investments in college athletics are the foundation of excellence. Fortunately, our I FUND donors, alumni and fans recognize our time is now."
Fans still have an opportunity to invest in this once-in-a-lifetime project that transforms State Farm Center into the nation's best on-campus venue. Click here for more information.
