EIU Press Release

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Eastern Illinois University today named Illinois Senior Associate Athletics Director Tom Michael as the 10th full-time Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at EIU. Michael was a four-year letterman for the Fighting Illini basketball team from 1991-94 and still holds the Illini all-time season mark for three-point field goal percentage. For the past 18 years, he has held several different roles within the DIA, including Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Services for six years before being named Associate Athletics Director in 2008 and Senior Associate Athletics Director in 2012.

"I am very excited for Tom and his family as he takes on this outstanding opportunity as Director of Athletics at Eastern Illinois University," said UI Director of Athletics Mike Thomas. "Tom has a long history at the University of Illinois as both a student-athlete and administrator, and has played an integral part in many success stories during his tenure. He has worked very hard over his career with this goal in mind, and it is very satisfying to see Tom get this position. I'll be working with Tom and his staff during this transition to ensure we don't miss a beat with the State Farm Center project and other areas of his responsibilities. I wish him nothing but the best of luck as he moves in to lead EIU athletics."
