Illini football players stopped by to autograph posters after practice on Saturday, April 18th for kids from the Kiwanis Challenger Baseball Program as part of the Hometown Heroes program. The program is for youngsters who are physically or mentally challenged and is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Champaign. The children visited with team members and had players autograph football posters as well as many other items.
Hometown Heroes is a community outreach program that provides our student-athletes with opportunities to interact with youth from Champaign County while spreading an anti-drug, anti-gang and pro-Illini message. This program enables our student-athletes to develop their speaking skills while impacting the lives of others as they serve as role models for the youth of our community.
