The Fighting Illini Caravan is sponsored by the I-FUND.
April 5, 2012
Champaign, Ill. - The University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics will once again reach out to the Illini Nation on a nine-city caravan tour. New Illini football coach Tim Beckman, men's basketball coach John Groce and women's basketball coach Matt Bollant along with several other Olympic coaches will conduct school and hospital visits and host an I-FUND Reception in each city.
"We are thrilled to have added three outstanding head coaches to our staff in recent months," Illinois Director of Athletics Mike Thomas said. "Coach Beckman, Coach Groce and Coach Bollant bring with them successful backgrounds. In addition, one of our criteria for making these hires was to add coaches who are also tremendous people and who will be visible in the community and around Illini Nation. The Fighting Illini Caravan receptions are an excellent way to spread the word about the positive momentum surrounding our programs. I think our fans will love getting to know our new coaches and becoming re-acquainted with other members of our staff."
Illinois fans can register for each reception, which is $25 per person, by calling the I-FUND office at 217333-6277 or at the Fighting Illini Caravan website. The evening will include heavy hors d'oeuvres, an autograph session and a chance to chat with the Illini coaches. The reception runs from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at each caravan stop with a 6:30 p.m. presentation by Beckman and Groce that will give those in attendance a unique insight into the programs. A complete list of specific coaches who will be in attendance at each visit will be available at a later date.
