Second Annual I Run Chicago Set for April 14
Feb. 12, 2013
CHICAGO -- Fighting Illini and Big Ten fans, alums and supporters will have the unique opportunity to support University of Illinois student-athletes at the second annual I Run Chicago on Sunday, April 14 in Lincoln Park.
Proceeds benefit the University of Illinois I FUND, which raises millions each year for scholarships and other academic support services for more than 500 Fighting Illini student-athletes in 19 varsity sports.
This year's I Run Chicago will start at 10 a.m. outside the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Lincoln Park, 2430 N. Cannon Drive (at Fullerton).
"I Run Chicago gives Chicagoland alumni and fans a unique opportunity to locally support their alma mater and the Orange and Blue," UI Director of Athletics Mike Thomas said. "I am looking forward to running in the event, and hope we have several thousand others join in on what will be a great event."
In addition, there will also be spirited performances throughout the day by Illinois' award-winning Marching Illini band. Sportscaster Ryan Baker, 2013 Chicago Illini of the Year, will emcee the event, while Gene Honda, the voice of Illinois football, the Chicago White Sox, Blackhawks hockey and the NCAA Final Four, will announce the race.
Following the morning run, there will be post-race party inside the Notebaert Museum, where food and refreshments will be served and Mike Thomas will update fans on the latest happenings with the Fighting Illini and hold a Q&A session.
