Hey there Illini Fans!
This past week our team competed in The Big Ten Championships at the Pete Dye Course in French Lick, Ind. We went into the event knowing we had to put up a great performance of golf in order to get into the Regional tournament next week. We prepared more than ever in the weeks leading into it (such as our stadium workouts to prepare for the hills!) and we all felt very confident about our game. As you may already know, we unfortunately fell just short of qualifying for Regionals as a team but at least can be proud of both Ember Schuldt and Stephanie Miller for qualifying to represent our university as individuals.
All considered, we are happy with the way we performed at the Big Ten Championships with the 5th place finish. It was a big improvement on last year and the 296 we posted on Day 2 is in the records books now for the lowest total score our team has shot at the championship. It was also nice to have a different person on our team stand out each day, which goes to show the depth of our team. Day one Ember Schuldt posted the low round of 77 (considering a 3 club wind that day, this was a very respectable score). Day two Erin Ahern had a big comeback and posted a 72 (her best career round to date- good timing for it). Finally, on day 3 Emily Joers posted 74. Although our first day we did not put up our best performance, we made a strong comeback to place 5th and are especially proud of Ember Schuldt's 6th place finish individually!! As a celebration to the end of our season, of which we are overall happy with despite many ups and downs, the coaches took us to a great drive-in ice cream place on the way home. J
Like always our team had a great time together at the Big Ten Championships whether it was while on the golf course, while in our hotel rooms goofing off, singing along to music in the van, or watching The Parent Trap in between our individual meetings. The combination our team has of being best friends along with great golfers will help us to grow into an even stronger team in the future. We are already excited for the opportunity next year of performing even better in both the Fall and Spring season.
For now though, we wish the best for Ember Schuldt and Stephanie Miller at Regionals May 8-10 in Oklahoma!
Have a great week!
