Get the inside scoop on the Illinois Women's Golf team with Chip Shots - the blog that takes you behind the scenes. In this season's 11th entry, Sam Postillion recaps the team's outing at the Westbrook Invitational and gives insight on what the squad is focused on moving forward.
Hey there Illini fans!
A week ago our team competed in the Westbrook Spring
Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin. We were so grateful to play
in ideal weather every day at Westbrook Golf Club and were also grateful to
spend each day with extremely friendly host families. And of course, we enjoyed
a ton of great food, most especially the steak sandwiches which were provided
by my dad J
The tournament was comprised of 14 teams, many of which were
in the top 50 rankings. We were very excited to get our Spring season off to a
great start and worked on gaining confidence in all parts of our game leading
up to the event. We kept our positive attitudes throughout the tournament but
realized afterwards that we could have improved on being more aggressive with
our games. Overall we finished in 8th place with Stephanie Miller
leading the team at T-6th with total of 213- 3 under par while
senior Ember Schuldt finished T-18th at 1 over par. While we are
proud of tying the 2nd lowest team score (+11) in program history,
we know we are capable of doing much better.
We all have the ability to go low into the 60s but need to
persevere through any doubts we have in ourselves and get that aggressive
mindset when we are given a course that is set up for birdies. Therefore, in the next week and a half we are
working on gaining unconditional confidence so we can step up to the next tournament
without fear. By focusing on this process, we know that we will be fully
prepared to shoot lower than we ever have as a team in the upcoming
tournaments! Next up we head to Georgia to play Forest Hills GC March 13-16th.
Hope everyone is having a great week! Spring is almost
here.... We hope ;)
