Each week the Illini in the NFL update will provide coverage on how former Fighting Illini football players fared during the previous week. In week 14, Corey Liuget recorded another sack and Alan Ball tallied his fourth career interception.  

Corey Liuget, DE, San Diego Chargers - Started in the Chargers 37-14 win over the Giants, while tallying three total tackles. Liuget also had half of a sack, as Eli went down for -11 yards. The sack pushes his 2013 total to 4.5 and career total to 12.5 just three seasons into his professional career.

Alan Ball, CB, Jacksonville Jaguars  - Ball started and had four tackles and an interception in the Jaguars' 27-20 win over the Houston Texans this past Thursday night. It was his first interception of the season, the fourth of his career, pushing the Jaguars to their fourth victory in the last five games after starting 0-8.


Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Arizona Cardinals - Started in the Cardinals 30-10 win over the St. Louis Rams, while rushing for 41 yards, including this three-yard touchdown run to put Arizona on top early in the game. Mendenhall has now rushed for over 500 yards on the season, the fourth year he's rushed for over 500 yards in his six-year career.

Whitney Mercilus, DE, Houston Texans - Started his 13th game of this season and recorded two tackles in the Texans 27-20 loss against the Jaguars, pushing his personal streak to four straight games with multiple tackles.

Jeff Allen, OT, Jon Asamoah, OG, Kansas City Chiefs - Allen started and Asamoah saw time on the Chiefs dominant offensive line as they helped the Kansas City Chiefs rush for 193 yards and a 45-10 win over the Redskins. Watch Jamaal Charles run off of Allen on this two-yard touchdown run to put the Chiefs up 10-0 in the first quarter. The Chiefs currently have the sixth highest average per rush in the NFL at 4.6 thanks in part to Allen and Asamoah.

Pierre Thomas, RB, New Orleans Saints - Thomas had a quiet night, recording 14 yards rushing and 14 yards receiving against the Carolina Panthers elite defense Sunday night in primetime. The Saints ended up running away with the game though, winning 31-13 in the NFC South divisional battle.

David Diehl, OG, New York Giants - Diehl started in his ninth straight game in the Giants' 37-14 loss to the Chargers. Watch Peyton Hillis run behind Diehl at right guard on this one-yard touchdown run to put the Giants on the board.

Vontae Davis, CB, Indianapolis Colts - Davis recorded two tackles and a pass deflection, his ninth of the season, in the Colts 42-28 loss against the Bengals on Sunday. Despite the loss, the Colts clinched the AFC South title, their eighth division crown of the past 11 years.

Akeem Spence, DT, Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Spence recorded two tackles Sunday in the Bucs 27-6 win at home over the Buffalo Bills. The Bucs have now won four out of the last five and Spence increased his tackle total to 22 for his rookie season.

Steve Weatherford, P, New York Giants - Weatherford punted three times in the Giants 37-14 loss to the Chargers on Sunday, for a total of 141 yards and a solid 47.0 average. On the season, Weatherford has a 47.2 yards per punt average, the second best of his career and close to topping his career high of 47.5 he achieved last season

Michael Buchanan, DE, New England Patriots - Played and recorded one tackle in the Patriots' 27-26 win over the Cleveland Browns.

AJ Jenkins, WR, Kansas City Chiefs - Played but recorded no statistics in the Chiefs 45-10 win over the Redskins.

Tavon Wilson, FS, New England Patriots - Wilson played in his 10th game of the season but recorded no statistics in the Patriots 27-26 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

Tony Pashos, OL, Oakland Raiders - Started in his ninth game of the season in the Raiders 27-37 loss to the New York Jets. The Raiders ended up rushing for 150 yards on the ground including a 5.8 yards per rush average.

Hugh Thornton, OL, Indianapolis Colts - Thornton was sidelined this Sunday due to a neck injury, snapping his streak of ten straight starts.

Michael Hoomanawanui, TE, New England Patriots - Inactive

Glenn Foster, DL, New Orleans Saints - Inactive due to knee injury

Martez Wilson, LB, Dallas Cowboys - Inactive

Mikel Leshoure, RB, Detroit Lions - Inactive

Arrelious Benn, WR, Philadelphia Eagles - Out for season with torn left ACL suffered during training camp.

Kelvin Hayden, CB, Chicago Bears - Out for season with a torn left hamstring suffered in early August.

Graham Pocic, OL, St. Louis Rams - Out for season is injury suffered during training camp.
