Each week the Illini in the NFL update will provide coverage on how former Fighting Illini football players fared during the previous week. Week 12 highlights include Pierre Thomas having another big game for the Saints, Rashard Mendenhall rushing for a TD in the Cardinals' win and Whitney Mercilus with another sack for the Texans.  

Pierre Thomas, RB, New Orleans Saints - Thomas had another big game, piling up 130 total yards (73 rushing on 10 carries and 57 receiving on five catches) in the Saints' 17-13 win over the Falcons on Thursday night. Thomas leads the team in rushing (486 yards) and is second on the squad in catches (56 rec. 406 yards) for the season. Watch Thomas stiff arm a Falcon's defender for a big gain

Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Arizona Cardinals - Mendenhall had 78 total yards (54 rushing and 24 receiving), including a 5-yard touchdown run and a 24-yard reception, in the Cardinals' 40-11 win over the Colts.

Whitney Mercilus, DE, Houston Texans - Had a season-high six tackles and a sack in the Texans 13-6 loss to the Jaguars. Mercilus has also started all 11 games this season and has 37 tackles and 5.5 sacks. Watch Mercilus take down Chad Henne for a loss of six-yards.

Steve Weatherford, P, New York Giants - Had a monster 51.6-yard average against the Cowboys, including a bomb of 68 yards to tie his career long. He pinned Dallas inside the 20 twice, but the Giants lost 24-21. For the season, Weatherford is averaging 47.2 yards per kick.  

Corey Liuget, DE, San Diego Chargers - Liuget started in his 11th game of this season and recorded one tackle in the Chargers 41-38 win over the Cheifs. Liuget now has 28 tackles on the year.

Jeff Allen, OT, Jon Asamoah, OG, Kansas City Chiefs - Allen started his 11th game for Chiefs, who picked up their second loss of the season on Sunday. Asamoah was inactive due to injury. Allen and the offensive line allowed three sacks while accumulating 395 total net yards of offense, including 114 on the ground.

AJ Jenkins, WR, Kansas City Chiefs - Jenkins had one catch for 22 yards in the Chiefs loss to the Chargers, his second catch of the season.

David Diehl, OT, New York Giants - Diehl started at right guard for his seventh consecutive game this season and helped the Giants put up 356 yards of offense, however, the Giants lost to the Cowboys, 24-21.

Alan Ball, CB, Jacksonville Jaguars  - Started his 10th game of the season in the Jaguars 13-6 win over the Texans, while recording one tackles and one pass deflection.  

Vontae Davis, CB, Indianapolis Colts - Started and recorded three tackles and one pass deflection in the Colts 40-11 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday.

Hugh Thornton, OL, Indianapolis Colts - Started at left guard for the ninhth consecutive game in the Colts 40-11 loss to the Cardinals.

Akeem Spence, DT, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Had three tackles to help the Buccaneers get their third win of the season, beating the Lions 24-21. It marked Spence's seventh multi-tackle game of the season.

Tavon Wilson, FS, New England Patriots - Played, but did not record any stats in the Patriots 34-31 overtime win over the Broncos.

Tony Pashos, OL, Oakland Raiders - Started and helped the Raiders offense pile up 353 total yards in their 23-19 loss to the Titans.

Michael Buchanan, DE, New England Patriots - Had a fumble recovery in the Patriots 34-31 overtime win over the Broncos.

Glenn Foster, DL, New Orleans Saints - Foster had one tackle in the Saints 17-13 last second win over the Falcons.

Justin Green, CB, New England Patriots - After spending all season on the practice squad, Green was signed to the 53-man roster last week and made his NFL debut in Sunday night's Patriots win over the Broncos.   

Martez Wilson, LB, Dallas Cowboys - After being cut by the Raiders after week 11, Wilson was signed by the Cowboys and could suit up for Dallas in week 13.  

Michael Hoomanawanui, TE, New England Patriots - Inactive

Mikel Leshoure, RB, Detroit Lions - Inactive


Former Illini on Injured Reserve

Arrelious Benn, WR, Philadelphia Eagles - Out for season with torn left ACL suffered during training camp.

Kelvin Hayden, CB, Chicago Bears - Out for season with a torn left hamstring suffered in early August.

Graham Pocic, OL, St. Louis Rams - Out for season is injury suffered during training camp.
