Get the inside scoop on the Illinois Women's Golf team with Chip Shots - the blog that takes you behind the scenes. In this year's final fall edition, junior Pimploy Thirati provides insight on the Illini's offseason and how they stay sharp inside and out of the classroom
Hi Illini Fans,
We are now in our off-season which gives us the opportunity to enhance our focus on academics and other aspects of our student-athlete lives. This is the time for us to catch up on anything we missed in the classroom when we were away for tournaments and strive to finish the semester with the highest team GPA again! Even though our skill instruction sessions are only 2 hours a week, we put in more time in other areas such as workouts and community service.
During the off season we push harder than ever in the weight room in preparation for the spring season. Not only do we workout with strength coach Katie Heinrichs 3 days a week, we also have cardio and mind/body sessions at the ARC twice a week where we would do all sorts of workouts such as yoga and combat boxing.
We recently had the opportunity to host The Cunningham Children's Home visited us for a golf session and pizza party at Demirjian. It was a very fun and heart-warming experience. I was working in the putting section and although some kids took a while to adjust to their putting stroke and speed, it was worth seeing a smile on their faces when they were able to make putts.
Another big part of the off-season is our Demirjian Indoor Facility as we start to utilize the facility more often. It is a huge advantage for our preparation for the spring season so we can continue our success. I am very proud of what our team has accomplished in the fall, and I also admire the fact that everyone is determined to push our limits and break records in the spring. We are definitely looking forward to more wins to come!
Thank you for your support and we hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.
