Illini Ink - The yearly journal that takes you behind the scenes of the Illinois women's gymnastics team. In this season's second edition, senior Sarah Fiedler discusses what the Fall season means to them: finishing up routines, midterms, a beautiful campus and establishing a championship culture.

Hello Illini Fans!

I can't believe it is October already! Campus is always so pretty in the fall though with all of the leaves changing, I look forward to it. Not to mention it's my birthday month. J Assignments in good ol' Kenney Gym are picking up; we are starting to put parts of our routines together. Season will be here before we know it!

This year we, as a team, came up with words that we felt were our core values in obtaining a championship team culture. A word is assigned each week to be the focus of that week. At the end of the week, we vote for who we felt exhibited this value the best. The first week the word was "accountability" and the second week it was "no excuses". This is a great way to be able to praise those who are showing values that correlate to our championship culture, as well as to be able to improve our weaker areas in the gym.

Usually when things are picking up in the gym, unfortunately that means it's about that time for midterms. Irwin becomes our second home at this point to prepare for these exams. Fortunately, the annual tailgate and fall break are fast approaching; we will definitely appreciate this break after midterms! It's also a fun time to be able to visit with our families, hang out with alumni, and cheer on Illini football to a victory!

That's all for now, thanks for reading, and tune in next week for more updates!
