Illini Ink - The yearly journal that takes you behind the scenes of the Illinois women's gymnastics team. In this season's third edition, sophomore Heather Foley talks about the fun fall activities the team has been doing, developing their routines and supporting other athletic teams on campus.
Hey Illini Fans!
There has been a lot going on in the past few weeks for the Illini. I can't believe we're getting towards the end of October already! It's starting to get a little chilly on campus, with the leaves changing and the beautiful fall weather beginning.
With the beautiful fall weather comes the fun fall activities! A couple of us girls went to the pumpkin patch and apple orchard. We picked apples, tried some apple cider (which was delicious) and picked pumpkins. Later on that day, we carved the pumpkins and baked some pumpkin seeds. It was a successful Saturday to say the least.
In practice, we are beginning to add more and more to our routines as season comes closer. The spirit in the gym has been great, everyone is cheering away for their teammates as they are doing their assignments.
We've been supporting our fellow Illini this past week as well. Friday night, we went to the volleyball game and watched them put up a great fight against #3 Penn State, before losing in the 5th set. Many of us also went to the football and soccer games. The guy's team had a 'softball match' on Saturday, it was pretty funny to watch some of the guys try to hit a softball! I was pleasantly surprised at how well some of them played though! I know I have no hand eye coordination AT ALL so I'm glad we just got to sit on the sidelines. It was also funny listening to our coach, Chad, say he was going to hit a home-run every time he went up to bat (but never actually did). J
Fall break is almost upon us and with that comes the annual Alumni Tailgate!! Many of our parents, siblings, grandparents, and alum will be joining us at the tailgate this weekend and we can't wait to see them all.
Thanks for reading, stay tuned for more updates!
