Each week the Illini in the NFL update will provide coverage on how former Fighting Illini football players fared during the previous weeks. In week 7, Vontae Davis provided outstanding pass defense against the formerly undefeated Peyton Manning and the Broncos, Offensive linemen Jeff Allen andJon Asamoah pushed the Chiefs to 7-0, and Corey Liuget picked up his second sack of the season.

Vontae Davis, CB, Indianapolis Colts - Davis helped keep the high powered offense of Denver in check Sunday night in the Colts 39-33 victory. He recorded three tackles and two pass deflections and was named Defensive Player of the Week in Sports Illustrated's Monday Morning Quarterback.

Jeff Allen, OT, Jon Asamoah, OG, Kansas City Chiefs - Both Asamoah and Allen started in their sixth respective games of the season. They anchored the offensive line into achieving yet another 100+ yard rushing game. With seven wins to start the season, the Chiefs are approaching their best start in franchise history of nine straight wins occurring in 2003.

Jeff Cumberland, TE, New York Jets - Once again Cumberland was productive with a solid number of targets (seven) as he caught three passes for 41 yards in Sunday's victory over New England. Cumberland has now posted 40+ receiving yards in the past three games. Watch Cumberland reel in a 25-yard pass.

Corey Liuget, DE, San Diego Chargers - Liuget recorded his second sack of the season in San Diego's 24-6 win over Jacksonville as he took down Chad Henne for a nine-yard loss. Liuget has started in all seven games this year.

Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Arizona Cardinals - Mendenhall had 13 carries for 22 yards but still found the end zone with a three-yard run in Thursday night's loss to Seattle. He now has 281 total rushing yards on the season. Watch Mendenhall's touchdown run here.

Whitney Mercilus, DE, Houston Texans - Mercilus recorded two tackles in the Texans close loss to the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs. He now has a total of 27 tackles on the year.

Hugh Thornton, OL, Indianapolis Colts - Thornton started in his fifth straight game for the Colts protecting Andrew Luck in the 39-33 victory over Denver. The Colts offensive line only allowed two sacks during the game while helping the offense produce 334 total net yards.

Akeem Spence, DT, Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Started in his third straight game of the season, fourth overall. Spence recorded two tackles in the Bucs 23-31 loss to the Falcons.

David Diehl, OT, New York Giants - Started for the Giants in their 23-7 victory over the Vikings on Monday night. The Giants allowed just two sacks on the game on their way to their first win of the season.

Steve Weatherford, P, New York Giants - Weatherford punted a season high nine times Monday night in the Giants 23-7 victory against the Vikings. Weatherford's punts netted 438 total yards for an average of 48.7.  

Alan Ball, CB, Jacksonville Jaguars - Started for the Jaguars in their 24-6 loss against San Diego and recorded two tackles.

Michael Hoomanawanui, TE, New England Patriots - With the return of Rob Gronkowski, Hoomanawanui's playing time was limited. He finished with no statistics.

Michael Buchanan, DE, New England Patriots - Buchanan played but did not record a tackle in the 30-27 loss to the Jets.

Mikel Leshoure, RB, Detroit Lions - Played in his second game of the season in the Lions 27-24 loss to the Bengals.

AJ Jenkins, WR, Kansas City Chiefs - Jenkins played but recorded no statistics as he was in for just six offensive snaps.

Tavon Wilson, FS, New England Patriots - Wilson was inactive for Sunday's game vs the Jets due to a hamstring injury. He has now missed the last three games.

Graham Pocic, OL, St. Louis Rams - Out for season is injury suffered during training camp.
