Weekly Update Archive | Illini in the NFL Website

Each week the Illini in the NFL update will provide coverage on how former Fighting Illini football players fared during the previous weeks. It was a good week for tight ends and running backs as both Hoomanawanui and Cumberland both reeled in four catches for 50+ yards while Pierre Thomas and Rashard Mendenhall each averaged at least four yards per carry. Meanwhile the duo of Asamoah/Allen has pushed the Chiefs to 6-0 for the first time since 2003.

Pierre Thomas, RB, New Orleans Saints - Thomas ran for 51 yards on 11 carries and caught one pass on one target for 29 yards, his longest of the season, in Sunday's last second loss at New England. Thomas averaged 4.6 yards per carry, his best outing since week 2.

Jeff Cumberland, TE, New York Jets - Once again Cumberland was productive despite a small number of targets (five) as he caught four passes for 59 yards in Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh.
