Illini in the NFL 2013 - Week 5

Pierre Thomas thrived back in the state of Illinois, Jeff Cumberland and Rashard Mendenhall scored their second touchdowns of the season, and the duo of Jeff Allen and Jon Asamoah helped the Chiefs move to 5-0 to highlight Illini in the NFL in week five.

Pierre Thomas, RB, New Orleans Saints - Thomas had 94 total yards (36 rushing, 55 receiving) and two touchdowns Sunday in the Saints 26-18 win over the Bears. Thomas' 19 carries were a season high and his most since 2010. He also set a season high in catches (9), receiving yards and scores, finding the end zone on a two-yard catch and a 25-yard screen play. Jeff Cumberland, TE, New York Jets - Cumberland scored his second touchdown in the past two weeks in the Jets' thrilling 30-28 Monday Night Football victory in Atlanta. Cumberland caught a total of three passes for 79 yards, including a long of 47 yards.

Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Arizona Cardinals - Mendenhall produced 17 carries for 43 yards and a touchdown, his first since week two vs. Detroit. He also reeled in two catches for seven yards in Sunday's 22-6 win over Carolina.

Whitney Mercilus, DE, Houston Texans - Mercilus recorded his second straight game with a sack, taking down Colin Kaepernick for a loss of six yards in the Texans 34-3 loss to the 49ers. Mercilus finished with three tackles in the game and now has a team-high 4.5 sacks on the season. 

Jeff Allen, OT, Jon Asamoah, OG, Kansas City Chiefs - Both Asamoah and Allen were in action Sunday, starting in their fourth games of the season to help the Chiefs remain undefeated at 5-0. Kansas City allowed just two sacks while gaining 120 net yards rushing. Watch Jeff Allen push the line and help Jamaal Charles get in for the fourth quarter touchdown.

Vontae Davis, CB, Indianapolis Colts - Davis once again tied his season high of three tackles to bring his season total to 11. Davis also recorded one pass deflection in the Colts 34-28 win over the visiting Seattle Seahawks.

Corey Liuget, DE, San Diego Chargers - Liuget followed his best game of the season with a four tackle performance in a 27-17 loss to the Oakland Raiders in the late night match on Sunday.

Hugh Thornton, OL, Indianapolis Colts - Thornton started in his third straight game for the Colts as Indianapolis continues to roll, this time with a 34-28 shootout win against Seattle. The Seahawks defense only earned two sacks while the Colts offensive line helped Indy accumulate 317 total net yards with 109 coming on the ground.

Tony Pashos, OL, Jack Cornell, OL, Oakland Raiders - Pashos was inactive for Sunday's game due to a groin injury. Thus Jack Cornell was called up from the practice squad and played in his first career NFL game. The Raiders offense produced 299 total yards with 104 coming on the ground. 

David Diehl, OT, New York Giants - Diehl, finally recovered from a thumb injury, started in his first game of the season. Unfortunately, that did not reverse the Giants' luck, as they remained winless with a 36-21 loss to the Eagles. The Giants offensive line only surrendered one sack in the game.

Martez Wilson, LB, New Orleans Saints - Wilson tallied his second straight game with at least one tackle. Saints defeated  the Bears 26-18 in Chicago.

Michael Buchanan, DE, New England Patriots - Buchanan once again got into the game and tallied a tackle for the Patriots. However, New England lost 13-6 to Cincinnati.

Alan Ball, CB, Jacksonville Jaguars - Ball improved on last week's tackle number and picked up four against the Rams on Sunday to bring his season total to 18. The Jags lost 34-20. 

Steve Weatherford, P, New York Giants - Weatherford punted the ball seven times for an average of 48.3 yards. His longest punt of the day went 58 yards. He now has 29 total punts on the year with an average of 47.5 yards.

Michael Hoomanawanui, TE, New England Patriots - Hoomanawanui started in his fourth game of the season and reeled in one catch for two yards.

Glenn Foster, DL, New Orleans Saints - Foster got into the game Sunday but did not record a statistic.

AJ Jenkins, WR, Kansas City Chiefs - Jenkins filled in for an injured Donnie Avery on Sunday but did not record a catch. The Chiefs defeated the Titans 26-17.

Tavon Wilson, FS, New England Patriots - Tavon Wilson did not participate in any snaps in the Patriots 13-6 loss to Cincinnati.

Mikel Leshoure, RB, Detroit Lions - Leshoure was once again inactive Sunday as Detroit lost to Green Bay, 22-9.

Graham Pocic, OL, St. Louis Rams - Out for season with injury suffered during training camp.
