Get the inside scoop on the Illinois Women's Golf team with Chip Shots - the blog that takes you behind the scenes. In this year's fifth edition, Jackie Calamaro discusses the team's big first place victory at the Diane Thomason Invitational.
Hi Illini Nation!!
WE HAVE OUR FIRST WIN!! We played this past weekend in the Diane
Thomason Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course, and came out on top!! After our
practice round on Friday, we all felt really confident in the game plans we
established and the mindset we had going into the weekend. Our goal was to
focus on our own games and to be committed to every shot while on the course.
These goals gave us the concentration we needed and were the stepping-stones
that helped us bring home a win! Stephanie Miller played an awesome tournament,
shooting a total of -3 and winning outright by 10 shots!! She's the first Illinois
freshman to win a college tournament outright since 1992, and we are all so
proud of her!! Ember Schuldt also continued to play strongly, finishing in the
top 5 this week. Also, to continue a weekend of firsts this season, Emily Joers
had her first hole-in-one ever on the 8th hole in her second round!!
We had a lot of fun at this tournament; not only was it
successful on the golf course, we also got to enjoy each other off of it too. With
goofy team pictures before the practice round, funny interviews, belting out
Bohemian Rhapsody in the van and eating a lot of victory pie J I am so proud of our
team. Our new theme of "The Hunt for Red October" has motivated us, and I know
that we are only at the first stages of what will be a successful season for
this team! Follow us this weekend as we play in Indiana at the Hoosier
Invitational and continue our hunt for red numbers!!
