Hey, Illini fans!
The first month of training for the swim and dive team has officially come to a close; and with it have come some fast times, sweet dives, great friendships, and regular daily goofiness. Here are some of the highlights from the past month.
We realized our freshman class is AWESOME. Nicknames are still in the making, but one of my personal favorites is "G-money" for Gabbie (G$ for short).
We also love our new sprint coach Alec. Despite his propensity to write underwater sets (basically "hold your breath until things start to get fuzzy. Ready. Set. Go."), his artwork and checklists on the whiteboard are stellar. Yesterday's list was:
1.) Get better at swimming.
3.) Get stronger.
4.) Get even more better at swimming (later crossed out and replaced with "Achieve additional improvement in swimming").
5.) Improve grammar.
6.) Inspire someone else to be great.
The acronym TGFG was inserted in the common team vernacular. I shall explain: Kayla went to her boyfriend's grandma's birthday party and came back to campus with a huge cake, the entirety of which was enjoyed by the team. Thank Goodness For Grandma.
Mr. McDermott won King Dad for the whole university on Dad's Day! Cal and Sloane achieved their life goals when they made it on the jumbotron as they stood with their dad on the football field.
Lori's stuffed cat Bianca and Bella's stuffed dolphin Gilby are an item now.
Cara decided to nail a life-sized panda kite to her wall. Yeah, we don't understand either.
Chipotle and Insomnia are benefitting greatly from our increase in yardage.
The Orange and Blue teams have been decided, and the smack-talking has begun. In a recent snapchat conversation with Courtney, she claimed she "forgot what team won last year." Yeah, I would've repressed that memory, too, if I were on Boo team-- err Bluesers-- I mean Blue team. The meet will be at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12. Come support your favorite amphibians!
Thanks for reading, and GO ILLINI!
