Hey Illini Fans!
In recent weeks since our last tournament, we have been doing a ton to prepare ourselves. As a team we have been pushing ourselves physically in the gym and during cardio workouts to help build our strength and endurance. In practice, we have been focusing on making more birdies and grinding up and down from anywhere. Our goal has been to narrow our focus and prepare each day as if the tournament was tomorrow. I believe that this mentality is going to lead to great success in our next three tournaments.
Our team has shown our commitment to our long-term goals of gaining yardage and preparing our endurance for the Big Ten Championship at French Lick. We have been challenging each other at workouts by running the stairs at Memorial Stadium, sprinting suicides and relay races on the basketball courts, and lifting twice a week. The workouts we do together really help improve our team chemistry by enhancing our competitive nature and cheering on our teammates through challenges.
We played at the Pete Dye Course at French Lick two weekends ago. It was an incredible experience that helped us gain a better understanding of how to structure practice in order to prepare like champions. The course was in phenomenal condition, with smooth quick greens, tight fairways and an abundance of tricky lies. It is a true championship course and we are all looking forward to playing it again in the spring.
In order to finish strong the rest of the fall season, Ember came up with a great idea to title it "The Hunt for Red October." We really want to continue striving to make a lot of birdies and sub par rounds! We love seeing red numbers!
Keep following as we take on Finkbine golf course in Iowa City next weekend! I-L-L!
