The Fighting Illini got a much needed, and much deserved day off on Sunday. After a closed scrimmage at Memorial Stadium Saturday night, the Illini returned to Rantoul and enjoyed a relaxing Sunday afternoon at the Hap Parker Family Aquatic Center, which is adjacent to the Camp Rantoul practice fields. Some of the players let loose on the water slides and diving boards, while others watched and lounged in the lagoon area of the pool.
Following late afternoon position meetings and dinner, the team took part in some leadership development activities on Sunday night. The evening included a talk from guest speaker Colonel Royal P. Mortenson, a retired U.S. Marine and currently the director of the Illinois Fire Service Institute, as well as group leadership activities.
The Illini return to the Camp Rantoul practice fields one more time on Monday at 10:45 a.m. before returning to Champaign, where practices are closed to the public, on Tuesday for the rest of training camp.
