The Fighting Illini held their 14th training camp practice Friday morning, the front-end of their third two-a-day this week at Camp Rantoul. As has been the case after the first of each two-a-day session, the players enjoyed freeze pops and pickles, along with the usual Gatorade, while taking their ice baths right after practice.

Why freeze pops and pickles? According to Illinois director of sports nutrition Chelsea Zenner, it's important for the players to replenish their bodies with carbs and sodium within 30 minutes of the end of practice. Needless to say, they've been a hit with the players.

The Illini also got another treat after the morning practice, as kids from nearby Little Wings Childcare and Learning Center took in the practice and high-fived the entire team as they came off the field.

De-Striper Update: Four more Illini newcomers were de-striped following Friday's practices, bringing the total to 19. Defensive lineman Jarrod "Chunky" Clements and offensive lineman Dallas Hinkhouse hadthe white stripe removed from their helmets signifying that they're no longer considered a rookie after the morning practice, while Dillan Cazley and Wes Lunt were de-striped following the afternoon session. Here's a full list of Illini who have been de-striped through Friday's double session:

The Illini returned to the practice field Friday evening and went through a workout in shoulder pads and shorts after being in full pads during the morning session. The team also enjoyed a great dinner after practice, with choice of grilled bacon-wrapped pork chops, chicken quarters, fried butterfly shrimp, jambalaya and au gratin potatoes. Dessert was a choice of cherry, strawberry, chocolate or coconut creme pie. There was something for everyone!

Illinois will have a closed scrimmage at Memorial Stadium on Saturday before a rare day off practice on Sunday, which Coach Beckman said they will use as a "leadership day," including a visit from a military colonel.
