50th Anniversary Events | Assembly Hall's Greatest Games

The University of Illinois is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Assembly Hall on March 2, 2013. In it's first 50 years, nearly 10 million fans have seen over 700 games at the Hall, creating countless memories.  We asked Fighting Illini fans to recall their personal memories, both for basketball and entertainment events, at the historic building. Here's what you had to say...

All good picks! A couple of my favorites that didn't make the list:
-Frank Williams game-winner vs. Ohio State in 2000
-Great win over MSU in 2001
-Illini run UNC out of the building in the 2002 Big Ten/ACC Challenge

John Turner scores first 4 points in first official game (I think it was but could be wrong) at the AH for Metropolis in IHSA tourney. Metropolis also first team to lose in AH. Train stopped outside of Metropolis to pick us up and near AH to drop us off.

Eddie Johnson hitting the shot to be Magic, Special K and the Michigan State national title winner!

That was a shot to remember!

My best personal memory is watching the Illini pulverize Michigan State the year it opened. The Illini, Skip, bogie, Donnie, Tal, eta al had something like 120 or more points, and I got to see a game with my Dad in that very first year. Exciting to be a part of that, as I'm going on 59 this year myself!!

Taking my son to his first Illini basketball game in late 2011. He was only 3 months old. He was mesmerized. He has been to 5 games now and loved everyone. He even got to meet Chief Illiniwek in a surprise visit to the Hall.
