Each week the Illini in the NFL update will provide coverage on how former Fighting Illini football players fared during the previous weeks. Brandon Lloyd had a touchdown catch to help the Patriots advance to the AFC championship game. In all, four former Illini will play for a trip to Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday after helping their teams wins in the Divisional round, plus Baltimore Ravens practice squad player Jack Cornell is still alive as well. The five total Illini still left on playoff rosters or practice squads is tied for 10th-most among all colleges.
Brandon Lloyd, WR, New England Patriots - Had five catches for 32 yards,
including a 5-yard touchdown reception, in the Patriots' 41-28 win over the
Texans. New England will host Baltimore on Sunday at 5:30 pm CT on CBS. Watch

Tavon Wilson, FS, New England Patriots - Wilson had three tackles in the Patriots' 41-28 win over the Texans on Sunday. New England will host Baltimore on Sunday at 5:30 pm CT on CBS.
Michael Hoomanawanui, TE, New England Patriots - Hoomanawanui saw action but did not
record any stats in the Patriots 41-28 win over the Texans. His playing time is
expected to increase in the conference final against Baltimore with All-Pro
tight end out for the rest of the playoffs due to injury. New England and
Baltimore square off Sunday at 5:30 pm CT on CBS.
AJ Jenkins, WR, San Francisco 49ers - Jenkins saw action but did not
record any stats in the 49ers 45-31 win over the Packers. San Francisco will
travel to Atlanta on Sunday to face the Falcons in the conference final (2 pm
CT on Fox).
Whitney Mercilus, DE, Houston Texans - Mercilus had one tackle in the
Texans 41-28 loss at New England. In his first year in Houston, Mercilus tied
the Texans rookie sacks record with 6.0, whil also adding 25 tackles, two
forced fumbles and one pass defended.
Alan Ball, CB, Houston Texans - Recorded two tackles in the Texans
41-28 loss at New England. Ball had 21 tackles and three passes defended on the
season.
