Each week the Illini in the NFL update will provide coverage on how former Fighting Illini football players fared during the previous week. Brandon Lloyd scored two touchdowns for the Patriots, Whitney Mercilus tied the Texans rookie sack record and Vontae Davis had his best game this season for the Colts to highlight Week 14 action. 

Brandon Lloyd, WR, New England Patriots - Lloyd caught seven balls for 89 yards and a touchdown in the Pats 42-14 win over the Texans. Lloyd also recovered a fumble in the endzone for his second TD of the game. Watch Lloyd's 37-yard TD Reception | Watch Lloyd's Fumble Recovery TD


Whitney Mercilus, DE, Houston Texans - Mercilus posted three tackles and sacked Patriots QB Tom Brady once in the Texans 42-14 loss at New England on Monday night. It was Mercilus' sixth sack of the season, which ties the Texans rookie sack record. Watch Mercilus' Record-Tying Sack

Vontae Davis, CB, Indianapolis Colts - Starting for the second straight week coming after recovering from injury, Davis recorded a season high eight tackles, including one sack and a pass deflection. Davis now has 14 tackles in the two week span since returning from injury. The Colts defeated the Titans 27-23. Watch Davis Sack Jake Locker

Corey Liuget, DE, San Diego Chargers - Liuget recorded one tackle, a sack, his sixth of the season, in the Chargers' 34-24 win over the Steelers. Watch Liuget Sack Ben Roethlisberger

Jeff Cumberland, TE, New York Jets - Cumberland caught only one pass but it went for 37 yards as the Jets defeated the Jaguars 17-10. Watch Cumberland's 37-yard Reception

Brandon Moore, OG, New York Jets - Right guard Brandon Moore made his 134th consecutive start as he and the Jets offensive line cleared the way for the Jets to rack up 166 rush yards in their 17-10 win over the Jaguars.

Mikel Leshoure, RB, Detroit Lions - Leshoure rushed for 49 yards on 14 carries (3.5 yards/carry), the most of anyone in the Lions backfield. Detroit lost 27-20 to the Packers.

Pierre Thomas, RB, New Orleans Saints - Thomas rushed for 19 yards on 5 attempts and caught 7 passes for 57 yards in the Saints 52-27 loss to the Giants.

Jeff Allen, OT, Kansas City Chiefs - In his tenth consecutive start as a Chief, Allen along with fellow Illini Jon Asamoah, paved the way for the Chiefs to garner 180 rush yards in the 30-7 loss to the Browns.  

Jon Asamoah, OG, Kansas City Chiefs - Asamoah started in his 12th game of the season, anchoring the offensive line against the Browns along with Illini Jeff Allen. The Chiefs lost 30-7 to the Browns.

Kelvin Hayden, CB, Chicago Bears - Hayden started for the first time this season and recorded four assisted tackles in the Bears 21-14 loss to the Vikings. Hayden now has 26 tackles on the season.

David Diehl, OT, New York Giants - Diehl and the Giants offensive line paved the way for 135 rush yards and did not allow a sack in the 52-27 win over the Saints. Diehl started in his sixth game of the season.

Tavon Wilson, FS, New England Patriots - Wilson tallied one assisted tackle to bring his season total to 34. Patriots won 42-14 to hand the Texans their second loss of the year.

Steve Weatherford, P, New York Giants - Punted three times for an average of 38.7 yards, with all three downed inside the 20 and a long of 56, in the Giants 52-27 win over the Saints.

Martez Wilson, LB, New Orleans Saints - Wilson recorded one solo tackle in the Saints' 52-27 loss to the Giants, bringing his sophomore season total to 17.

Michael Hoomanawanui, TE, New England Patriots - Hoomanawanui started in his first game since week 10 in the Patriots 42-14 win over the Texans on Monday Night. Though he didn't make a catch Hoomanawanui saw plenty of action and drew a pass interference penalty on the Texans defense.

AJ Jenkins, WR, San Francisco 49ers - Jenkins dressed for the first time this season, debuting for the 49ers in limited snaps. 49ers beat the Dolphins 27-13.

Arrelious Benn, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Benn remains on the Injured Reserve list due to shoulder problems. The Buccaneers beat the Panthers 27-21.

Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers - Mendenhall did not play in the 34-24 loss to the Chargers due to a knee injury.

Alan Ball, CB, Houston Texans - Due to a nagging foot injury, Ball was inactive for Monday's game at New England.
