Get the inside scoop and peek into the lives of the Illinois Women's Gymnastics team with Illini Ink - the weekly journal that takes you behind the scenes. In this year's fourth edition, freshman Giana O'Connor talks about the annual Thanksgiving dinner and the team's first four-event intrasquad.
Hi ILLINI Gym Fans!
This week has been very
eventful! On Saturday, we had our annual Thanksgiving dinner at Kim's
house. Besides for enjoying a good meal,
the team also discussed goals for each step in our 2013 journey. By the end of the night, we were all stuffed
and had a great time! Then, on Sunday, we had our first four event intrasquad! It was very successful and we hit 31 out of
32 routines. There was a lot of energy in the gym. The team still has a lot of
work to do, but it was a good start! As a freshman, it was a great experience
and got me excited for season to finally to begin. After the intrasquad, we all had team dinner
to celebrate. This week is Thanksgiving break for us! Everyone is excited to go home Tuesday so we
can rest a bit and spend some time with our families. Since
the dorms closed Sunday at noon, us dormers get to spend time in the apartments
with the upperclassmen until Tuesday!
As for our other Illini sports,
unfortunately the girls' soccer team season is over, but they had a great year
and we loved watching them succeed. Our seniors, attended the last home game of
the year to cheer on the football team, even though it was an unfortunate loss
against Purdue this Saturday. After the football game, most of our team went to
watch the boys' gymnastics team victory against UIC at their first intersquad.
Season is right around the
corner! After break, practice resumes on Sunday at 6pm. With that being said, we
have a couple weeks until Mixed Pairs. Hope to see you all there! That's all
for now!
GO ILLINI!
-Giana
